About Halton & Warrington District Music Service

Halton & Warrington District Music Service is a music support service organised by a group of dedicated professional educators based in the area, designed to fulfil the needs of music in education within the districts of Halton and Warrington. Working in partnership with schools and LEAs, HWDMS specialises in Instrumental Tuition, Inset Provision and Classroom Support and offers a comprehensively structured service, taking music education beyond the confines of lessons on a weekly basis.

HWDMS provides and creates opportunities for all young musicians to learn and perform on either a personal level or as part of an ensemble, from Classical to Contemporary, from Romantic to Rock. HWDMS is not governed by commercial interests but only the desire to enhance the opportunities that already exist within the area.

2 Jan - A New Year and a New Start

A new chapter begins with the implementation of the the Nationial Plan for Music Education later in the year. This involves all music services examing what they do and how they do it: partnership and working together are the key messages and will be the most obvious result.

We feel that HWDMS is well situated to deliver all that is asked by the government with this new plan and we look forward to working together with our colleagues in other services to deliver what is best for the music education of our pupils in the district.
2 Dec - CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to HWDMS Brass Tutor Lucy Pankhurst who has won a 2011 British Composer Award at the prestigious ceremony held at Stationers’ Hall in London on Wednesday evening (30th November).

Her atmospheric work, ‘In Pitch Black’ which commemorates the tragic Pretoria Pit Disaster of 21st December 1910, at Hulton Colliery, Westhoughton, close to the home of the Wingates Band – members of which were killed in a disaster that claimed 344 lives, won the Wind Band & Brass Band category – the first time ever that a work for brass has taken the award since its inception in 2003.
